Here's a map to refresh your mind about locations of countries in the Middle East.

On our way to look at a possible kennel location for our dogs and cats today, we saw camels, a herd of them, being driven (walking) in the desert. As we got closer to them, we saw that their front legs were hobbled and to the right of us was a herdsman, seated on the backside of one of the camels, driving the herd across the road. A stark contrast to the vehicular mode of transportation in the country, which seems to be mostly Toyota Land Cruisers, white, all with the same detailing. So far, camels are the only wildlife we have seen (ignoring the scorpion that someone found in our compound pool the other day). No photos, sorry. I really need to carry my camera with me at all times.
And no, the kennel did not really meet our expectations. We will probably have to hire someone to come in and care for the animals while we are gone.

Hmmm...a blog, now when am I going to find time to do this? Oh well, no matter, it will get done!
We are currently living in the country of Qatar. You may ask, where the heck is Qatar, well, it is flanked by Saudi Arabia to the west and the Arabian Gulf to the east. Across the Gulf and north, is Iran (I nearly typed in Persia - that is the historian/archaeologist in me), and northwest is Bahrain and Kuwait. Iraq is to the northwest, and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and Oman are to the southeast. Due east is the subcontinent of India. OK, are you up on your geography?
I am going to try my best to keep up with this blog and give you details about our life here in Qatar, our teaching experiences, and our travel experiences. If you get bored, well, you know what to do - just turn me off!
